This is really starting to piss me off. Mark Noonan:

"We ... extend our sympathies to victims of the violence and to the U.S. soldiers caught in its midst," Editor Mark Whitaker wrote in the magazine's latest issue...

Mr. Whitaker, they weren't victims of "violence"; they were victims of irresponsible reporting which always presumes the worst about the United States and it's military forces.

Please understand the enormous hypocrisy of this statement. Who's to blame for these deaths? Not the people who actually killed them, but rather those who angered the killers in the first place.

Do you realize that this is exactly the same reasoning that the Right accuses us of when they call us 'Blame America First'-ers if we dare to suggest a causal role between U.S. foreign policy and terrorism?

They are not simply pointing out that the violence was in response to the Newsweek story; they are placing the blame for that violence directly at the feet of Newsweek. It's not the fault of the religious fanatics who are erupt in violence over a book being flushed down the toilet; it's the fault of those who told them about it. (By the way, it is not totally clear that the story is not in fact true.)

What happened to individual responsibility, wingnuts? What, they just couldn't help but act out violently, because they were too upset? Isn't this exactly the kind of nonsense that you (falsely) accuse our side of believing? What's up, Noonan? Are you some kind of hypocrite, or just a fucking moron?

What's really amazing about this is the speed at which 'Newsweek Lied, People Died' became a mantra for the Right; within 24 hours, every winger with a blog was parroting this shit ad infinitum and ad nauseam. The right-wing echo chamber is truly a well-oiled propaganda machine.
