Sen. Ted Kennedy, the doyen of defeatism, responded to President Bush's speech by saying, "It's wrong for [the president] to attempt to silence his critics by calling them defeatists." Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment. Someone must have silenced her by calling her a defeatist.Seriously, get a new trope already.
I find it amusing that conservatives continue to be outraged over the death of Mary Jo Kepechne even thirty-six years later, while the hundreds of thousands of deaths at the hands of GOP presidents during the same time frame don't even register.
